Sorted by rating × number of Google reviews, which favors shops with many good reviews over a handful of perfect ones.
A specialty shows up here only when a customer review or the shop's own website mentions it. Quotes are verbatim sentences from 4 and 5 star Google reviews. Each shop's listing has the rest: hours, photos and any extras, such as toys and collectibles.

The backstock bucks are amazing if you spend $50+, and the sale section is pretty unreal for deals too!
Their selection offers vintage classics, the latest releases, variants, manga, and a good selection of indie reads.
I collect very specific DC giants from the silver age and found a pile.
Knowledgeable and got me a massive haul of comics in their dollar boxes.
This place provided a very memorable experience with its exterior entrance, interior layout, and had a comprehensive selection of comics and manga!
They have new releases, back issues, trade paperbacks of all sorts.
I love comics and manga just as much and both selections were great.
They also regularly schedule artist meet n greets and signings.
This place has a great range of books from the big 2 as well as plenty of independent publishers.
From readings, special events, and author signings to connecting Chicago comics makers and readers with great material (and with each other), Quimby's is awesome.
There’s no other place like Quimby’s ❤️ amazing bookstore, really great for zines by small independent artists, comics and a large variety of small press.
And the best part is: you can order back issues from their website and pick them up in the Andersonville store.
Love the subscription service where they pull specific comic books for me.
Pretty great selection of books, back issues, trades, and bunch of other stuff.
Able to get 5 books for free plus pick up some back issues.
- Indie comics and small press
My latest trip was at the behest of my daughter, who wanted to bring her report card so that she could dig through the boxes of back issues.
It’s a fine comic shop, though it feels a bit light on anything outside the big big stuff, including manga.
They were able to help me find FCBD issues I needed and held them for me.
There are also a few 50 and 25 cent comic bins and a good selection of back issues ranging from vintage to modern.
Today free comic book day so run over and pick a fun book to read.
Kid-friendly
After 2 other stores with no luck my son was able to find all the issues of the comics he was looking for and for an amazing price.
They have an amazing selection, tons of random back issues, and know what they are talking about.
The lady doing the free comic book day table was friendly and that always makes the experience a good one!
Had a surprising range of manga and manhwa from popular to obscure, and as someone who has read over a hundred series I can say this store has the best selection in town.
This place has become one of my favorite indie bookstores after a few visits!
They also make it incredibly easy to set up a pull list, whether in person, online, or over the phone.
The ambiance of the shop is delightful, with frequent in-store signings and engaging contests.
Went today for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY and got some amazing comics as well as purchased some rare comics!
I do live a bit further away in Arlington Heights but i will 100% be coming here at least once a month or more looking for key issues and back issues.
Something for everyone with mainstream, indie publishers, and local hand made zines!
Not pious or mainstream heavy - the selection of vintage notoriety, manga, new artists and indie genres is very well balanced.
I'm already looking forward to a return visit and hope to make it to a signing event in the future.
Went on free comic book day with a buddy recently and had a great time!
Upon entering, I was overwhelmed by the wall to wall selection of trade paperbacks, hardcovers, indie comics, and other fantastic reading materials that are available there.
Kid-friendly
There’s also plenty of manga, some zines, mini comix and a nice selection of all-ages books for the kids.
Have a good selection of dollar comics too for young readers.
Went there a couple of days ago for the first time, picked up two volumes of really short random horror manga I found to be interesting + cool art too: Can’t Stop Cursing You Vol.
A quirky comic book shop unlike any other with a great selection of indie comics, zines, and posters all within one giant art installation.
Has more back issuez than any store in Chicago and I've seen them all.
Three shops here buy comic collections, going by customer reviews or the shop's own website. Policies change and some shops only buy certain books, so call before you bring boxes in.
Before you go, read how to sell your comic collection. Compare buyers on the sell comics in Chicago page.
