Comic shops with manga
Manga are comics from Japan, sold in the US as translated paperback volumes. Many comic shops now give manga its own shelves next to American graphic novels.
Buying manga at a comic shop
Most manga is printed in its original right-to-left order, so you start at what looks like the back of the book. A series can run to dozens of volumes, and shops shelve them by title and volume number.
A shop that stocks manga can usually order a missing volume for you. Selection runs from one shelf to a whole section, so call ahead if you're after a specific series.
Manga is written for every age group, from young kids to adults. Many publishers print an age rating on the back cover. Check it if you're buying for a younger reader.

- California has the most, with 68 shops. In all, 552 comic shops in 49 states and DC sell manga in this directory.
- How do you decide which shops are listed here?
