Getting a fair offer in Chicago

  1. Call the shops first. Ask whether they are buying right now, what they want, and when the buyer is in. For a large collection, set a time.
  2. Sort before you go. Put books in order by title and issue number, and keep older books and keys in their own stack. Bags and boards help, but a clean, sorted box matters more.
  3. Compare offers on your most valuable books. Graham Crackers Comics Loop and Zombie Unicorn Comics may want different things, so the same box can get different offers.
  4. Ask for cash and store credit. Cash offers sit below resale value, because the shop has to sell the books again. Many shops offer more in credit.
  5. Expect little for bulk. Boxes of recent common issues are often bought as one lot for a low price, or not at all.
